GOOGLE TO INVEST US$ 10 BILLION IN INDIA

Google has said it plans to invest $10bn in India in the coming years, including in infrastructure and equity investments, as Silicon Valley companies jostle for a position in one of the world’s fastest-growing internet markets.

Sundar Pichai, chief executive at Google and its parent company Alphabet, announced the scheme after speaking with India’s prime minister Narendra Modi on Monday. Mr. Modi described the conversation as “extremely fruitful”, discussing new working practices during the coronavirus pandemic as well as security and safety online.

“This is a reflection of our confidence in the future of India and its digital economy,” said Sundar Pichai, chief executive of Google and Alphabet, said Monday at Google’s annual event showcasing its business in India, which was held online.

Google’s pledge also comes three months after rival Facebook invested $5.7bn in Jio Platforms, the fast-growing Indian telecoms company that has launched a series of digital services.

Access to India, now the world’s second-largest mobile market, is particularly important for Google as it is shut out of China and faces the prospect of greater difficulty in operating in Hong Kong following the passage of the new security law there last month.

Google’s announcement comes in the wake of the emergence of India as the most favourable destination, in the midst of the pandemic. Recent investment commitments include Walmart (US $ 1.2 billion) and Foxconn-Apple Inc. Supplier (US$ 1 billion) from among almost a dozen companies.

GOOGLE ĐẦU TƯ 10 TỶ USD VàO ẤN ĐỘ

Google cho biết, họ đang lên kế hoạch đầu tư 10 tỷ USD vào thị trường Ấn Độ trong những năm tới, bao gồm đầu tư về cơ sở hạ tầng và vốn cổ phần, khi các công ty ở thung lũng Silion đang tiến vào thị trường internet phát triển nhanh nhất thế giới.

ông Sundar Pichai, CEO của Google và công ty mẹ Alphabet, thông báo về kế hoạch sau cuộc gọi video với Thủ tướng Ấn Độ Narendra Modi hôm thứ Hai.  Thủ tướng Modi mô tả cuộc trao đổi đã diễn ra “cực kì hiệu quả”, thảo luận các phương thức làm việc mới trong đại dịch do virus corona gây ra cũng như an ninh và an toàn mạng.

“Đây là sự phản ánh niềm tin từ Google vào tương lai và nền kinh tế kỹ thuật số của Ấn Độ,” ông Sundar Pichai, CEO của Google và Alphabet, công bố thông qua cuộc họp trực tuyến hôm thứ Hai tại sự kiện thường niên của Google ở Ấn Độ.

Cam kết của Google được đưa ra ba tháng sau khi đối thủ Facebook công bố đầu tư 5,7 tỷ USD vào Nền tảng Jio,  nhà khai thác di động lớn nhất đã giới thiệu một loạt dịch vụ kỹ thuật số.

Việc đầu tư vào Ấn Độ, thị trường di động lớn thứ hai thế giới, là đặc biệt quan trọng với Google sau khi công ty đã rời khỏi Trung Quốc và đối mặt với các thách thức khó khăn tại thị trường Hồng Kông sau khi luật an ninh mới được thông qua vào tháng trước.

Công bố của Google được đưa ra trong bối cảnh Ấn Độ nổi lên là điểm đến đầu tư tiềm năng giữa đại dịch. Các cam kết đầu tư gần nhất bao gồm Walmart (1,2 tỷ USD) và nhà cung cấp Foxconn-Apple Inc. (1 tỷ USD) cùng nhiều công ty khác.
